Arson Claims Historic Mill

Someone torched the historic Mt. Healthy Mill in October 1981. The four story structure, built by my great-great-great-great grandfather in 1820, had been vacant for years. Efforts to preserve the mill were underway at the time of the fire.

This is the mill as it appeared around 1900.

And this is the mill in October 1981, long abandoned, but with a hopeful future–

just days before it was set ablaze by an unknown individual.

In future posts, I’ll be presenting facts about the mill and the unsolved arson that claimed the last mill in Hamilton County, Ohio.

  1. Tracy,

Hi! I am a retired architect in Cincinnati and a member of the Mt. Healthy Historical Society.

I have been keenly interested in the history of the Jediah Hill sawmill – and the neighboring John Lane blacksmith shop – for several years.

I would like to exchange some insights with you regarding Hill’s original sawmill.

Please contact me as soon as possible.

    Thanks in advance,
